Album Review: Rox RMX- Remixes from the Roxette Valts

Aria van Weye 16/07/2022

Towards the end of June this year, the Pop Legends that are Roxette released an absolute legendary 3 volume album set filled to the brim with songs from our favourite Pop Legends. It’s been four and a half years since the beautiful and talented Marie Fredriksson tragically past away after battling cancer for 17 years, and yet she never stopped performing during that time. So when I learnt that the new remix album had been released, my reaction was both pure happiness and incredible sadness. I was unsure how I would react hearing her voice again and even now I feel overwhelmed with an array of emotions.
On the outset, there are 44 completely different and separate tracks to get through, it’s one hell of a journey.

Roxette’s Per Gessle, who curated the 3 volume project, Commented the following about the released

‘I’ve put together three digital volumes of my favourite Roxette remixes created by big names, tiny names, on huge budgets and no budgets at all. It’s a pretty cool collection I’m very proud of.I’m especially happy that we, against all odds, actually found the original masters to all these recordings. It’s been hidden in mirror balls and sweaty underwear, hahaha.’

And his work is one of the most unique, talented and fun remix collection that really honours the original amazing hits. When listening it’s so surreal to hear the tracks that made my childhood sound so modern and like they have been only made this year. And let me tell you, hearing Marie and Per singing together literally brought tears to my eyes. Those beautiful tracks from the past are given a tasteful and respectful remix that you could find in any nightclub if you wanted to. You just can’t stop listening. I felt this absolute need to sit and listen to all 44 hits in one go. (If you are interested that’s 3 hours and 32 minutes of pure unadulterated bliss)
The fact that each song has been modernised so perfectly yet so incredibly respectful of the original song is why you end up wanting to just keep listening. I felt so many ranges of emotions, joy, happiness, excitement, melancholy, bittersweet sadness, and yet I felt I was taken to a world away from all my problems for one small moment. I joined the Joyride. I was knocking of every door, and I was doing the look.

Altogether, this project is perfect. There is nothing more I can say. The happiness I got was something I hope I can feel again some day. This project is a hands down 10/10
