My First Story Delivers a Haunting Experience with New Single “Boyfriend”

Aria van Weye 29/08/2024

Japanese rock band My First Story is back with their latest single, “Boyfriend,” and it’s a release that fans won’t soon forget. Known for their emotionally charged lyrics and powerful performances, the band has once again pushed the boundaries of their sound, delivering a track that’s as unsettling as it is captivating. With a dark and creepy music video to match, “Boyfriend” takes listeners on a journey through the shadowy side of love and relationships.

The song opens with a brooding guitar riff that immediately sets a foreboding tone. As the vocals come in, the lyrics paint a picture of a relationship that’s far from perfect, exploring themes of obsession, control, and the darker emotions that can sometimes accompany love. My First Story’s lead singer, Hiroki Moriuchi delivers the verses with a haunting intensity, his voice conveying both vulnerability and menace. The chorus is equally powerful, with its soaring melody and chilling lyrics leaving a lasting impression.

Musically, “Boyfriend” showcases My First Story’s evolution as a band. The production is polished yet raw, with the instrumentation creating a dense, immersive soundscape. The track’s arrangement is dynamic, shifting from quiet, introspective moments to explosive, cathartic crescendos. It’s a song that’s designed to evoke strong emotions, drawing listeners into its dark narrative and refusing to let go.

With “Boyfriend,” My First Story continues to prove why they’re one of the most compelling acts in the Japanese rock scene. The single is a bold exploration of the darker side of human emotions, and the accompanying music video adds a new layer of depth to the experience. For fans of the band and those who appreciate music that pushes boundaries, “Boyfriend” is a must-listen—and a must-watch. It’s a reminder that love, like music, isn’t always pretty, but it’s the raw, honest moments that resonate the most.
