Year of the Ox teams up with Junoflo and G2 for new single ‘Sakura Grapes’

Aria van Weye 18/04/2023

Korean-American hip-hop duo Year of the Ox has been making waves in the music industry with their unique blend of Asian American identity and socially conscious lyrics. Their latest release, “Sakura Grape,” featuring Korean rappers Junoflo and G2, is no exception.

Year of the Ox, consisting of Lyricks and JL, has been on the rise since their debut EP “Seven Rings” in 2017. Their music explores the complexities of their identities as Asian Americans, the struggles they face, and the power of their cultural heritage. With their thought-provoking lyrics and dynamic flow, Year of the Ox has become a prominent voice in the Asian American hip-hop scene.

Their latest release, “Sakura Grape,” is a playful yet hard-hitting track that showcases their versatility as artists. The song’s title refers to a popular Japanese candy that combines the flavors of cherry blossom and grape, a nod to the duo’s Asian heritage. The upbeat production and catchy hook make it a fun and enjoyable listen, but the lyrics delve into deeper themes of Asian American representation and the pressures of success.

The track features verses from two of Korea’s most talented rappers, Junoflo and G2, adding another layer of cultural exchange and collaboration to the mix. Junoflo delivers a confident and charismatic verse that showcases his skill as a rapper. G2, who has been making waves in the Korean hip-hop scene for years, adds his signature style with a smooth and effortless flow.

Together, the four artists create a track that not only showcases their individual talents but also highlights the power of collaboration and cultural exchange in music. “Sakura Grape” is a testament to the growing influence of Asian American and Korean hip-hop in the global music industry, and Year of the Ox is at the forefront of this movement.

In addition to their music, Year of the Ox has been vocal about social and political issues affecting Asian Americans. They have used their platform to address issues such as anti-Asian hate crimes and the lack of representation in media. With their music and activism, Year of the Ox has become a powerful voice for the Asian American community and a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

‘Sakura Grape’ is a standout track from Year of the Ox and a testament to their growth as artists. The collaboration with Junoflo and G2 adds another layer of cultural exchange and collaboration to the mix, making it a must-listen for fans of Asian American and Korean hip-hop.
