I was 10 when Meteora came out. And like lyrical clockwork Linkin Park manages to still deliver for their 20th anniversary. And delivering tears was on the menu it seems.
For anyone who doesn’t know Linkin Park, first off ouch…. and second they are a rock band from the 90’s early 2000’s delivering the very best for the generation known for myspace emo aesthetic. Linkin Park saved many when many didn’t realise they needed to be saved. And for that many of us will forever remain to Linkin Park. The beautiful brain child of the amazing legends Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Rob Bourdon. After some growing pains the band found the incredible Chester Bennington who became the bands singer, formerly of Grey Daze. Known for his powerful dynamic singing style.
“Im trapped in yesterday where the pain is all i know”
A perfect mix of everything Linkin Park. A sorrow, a pain, a realisation but also acceptance. Linkin Park music has always had this way of telling people that felt like they couldnt be honest that its ok to be venerable and to express pain. They speak to the generation struggling to come to terms with much of what generations before and after really didnt, or at least didnt talk about. This weight of loss and longing, of memories and battling with yourself, of who you and everything thinks you should be.
20 years.
I was 10 in 2003. In 2003 I will be growing into a teen battling an eating disorder, struggling with my depression and myself. Im now 30 and Lost is something that the me then and the me now still needs. Because alot of us still struggle, we still feel much like we did as teens. Because emotions dont have an age limit. Because the past is something i do struggle with, because in someways a part of me is trapped in that past.
We have to be able to accept the past to accept the future.
Congratulations Linkin Park and thank you <3
